UNITED NATIONS

EDISON'S

What is Model UN?

Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Security Council, or other multilateral bodies, which introduces students to the world of diplomacy and negotiation. In Model UN, students assume the roles of ambassadors of United Nations member states  to dispute current, international  issues on the UN's immense agenda. Model UN is more than a government and economic class; it offers a humanitarian approach that hopes to improve the world. The students are known as "delegates"; delegates use the UN's rules of procedure in the interest of "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect almost every country by resolving conflicts through draft resolutions and negotiating with supporters and adversaries. Thousands of middle school, high school, and college students across the country and around the world participate in Model UN. Model UN is a unique experience offering real world opportunities in collegiate and professional skills; involving extensive researching and developing writing, public speaking, and debating skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Our Mission

Thomas Edison’s Model United Nations (MUN) class aspires to work collectively in aiding the United Nation’s mission of enhancing social progress and improving the quality of life worldwide. Together, we strive to promote good citizenship, leadership, and professionalism. Our MUN class dedicates its time and efforts to improve the issues of poverty and pollution through disease prevention as well as improving access to clean water, food, and education both in our local community and internationally. Big changes start with small steps; taking one small step at a time, we hope to empower and change the world.
